General Consultations

At DC Medical Centre, our general practitioners provide comprehensive consultations for patients of all ages. General practice is often the first point of contact for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and ongoing management of a wide range of health concerns.

Whether you have new symptoms, are managing an existing condition or are looking for preventative healthcare, our practitioners offer individualised, evidence-based care tailored to your circumstances.

Care tailored to your needs

A consultation may include a physical examination, medication review, pathology or imaging requests, specialist referrals, preventative health advice or care planning, when clinically indicated. Your practitioner may recommend further appointments or investigations.

What Can Be Discussed During a General Consultation?

Acute Illnesses and Symptoms

Respiratory illnesses, headaches, abdominal symptoms, skin conditions, allergies, urinary symptoms, minor injuries and other new health concerns.

Chronic Medical Conditions

Ongoing management of diabetes, blood pressure, cardiovascular conditions, asthma, thyroid disorders, arthritis and other complex conditions.

Preventative Healthcare

General health assessments, screening, cardiovascular risk assessment, immunisation advice and lifestyle counselling.

Ongoing Treatment and Follow-Up

Investigation results, treatment monitoring, medication adjustments, follow-up examinations and coordination with other healthcare providers.

Choosing the Right Appointment

Standard (15 minutes): Usually best for one straightforward health concern.

Long (30 minutes): Recommended for several concerns, complex medical problems, detailed assessments or discussions requiring additional time.

Please book sufficient time. Where several unrelated issues are raised, your practitioner may recommend another visit.

Consultation Fees and Medicare Rebates

Fees depend on the consultation type, duration and services provided. Medicare rebates may be available to eligible patients. A Standard Consultation extending beyond 20 minutes is charged at the Long Consultation rate.

For consultation charges, Medicare rebates and out-of-pocket costs, please visit our Fees page.

Additional Procedure Fees and Your Consent

Some consultations may involve diagnostic tests, minor procedures or treatments that attract fees in addition to the consultation itself.

Any additional procedure fee will be explained and your consent obtained before proceeding. You can ask about alternatives, likely costs and whether a separate appointment is needed.

Our General Practitioners

General practitioners consulting at DC Medical Centre operate as independent medical practitioners and are responsible for the clinical services they provide.

All GPs consulting at the centre are registered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) with the Medical Board of Australia, and are vocationally recognised or hold specialist registration in general practice, as applicable.

You can check an individual practitioner's registration and qualifications on the Ahpra Register of Practitioners.

Preparing for Your Appointment

  • Bring a current medication and supplement list.
