RECOMMENDED APPOINTMENTS
International students with OSHC can book our regular private GP appointments. Pay our practice fee and then claim any eligible benefit from your OSHC insurer. We can help with claiming if needed.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is health insurance designed to assist international students with healthcare costs while studying in Australia. Most student visa holders are required to maintain OSHC for their stay, although specific exemptions can apply.
At DC Medical Centre, our GPs provide general medical care to international students, including illness assessment, prescriptions, preventive advice, mental health discussions and referrals when clinically appropriate.
You do not need to belong to a particular OSHC insurer to book; however, you are responsible for checking your policy benefits and paying the practice fee.
We charge standard private consultation fees.
Payment: Pay DC Medical Centre for your appointment.
Claim: Submit your receipt to your OSHC insurer.
Assistance: Our reception team can help with the claim process if needed. Your insurer controls approval and reimbursement.
Eligible GP and specialist consultations, some hospital treatments, ambulance services, certain pathology and imaging services, and limited prescription medicines. Benefit rules and amounts vary by plan.
Routine dental, optical and physiotherapy services are generally not included unless you have additional extras insurance. Other exclusions and limits may apply.
Book your consultation, attend your appointment and pay the standard private fee.
Retain the itemised invoice or receipt and your OSHC membership details for your claim.
Submit your claim using the insurer's app, website or other accepted channel. Ask reception if you need assistance with the paperwork.
Any rebate or gap depends on your insurer and policy. Helping you submit a claim does not mean that we directly bill the insurer or guarantee its payment.
Standard Consultation (15 minutes): Common medical issues, general advice and straightforward assessments.
Long Consultation (30 minutes): Multiple or complex concerns requiring additional consultation time.
Video Consultation: Suitable concerns that can be safely assessed remotely; your GP may still require an in-person appointment.
Video consultation rebates or insurer benefits depend on clinical suitability, your policy and applicable rules. Confirm coverage before booking.
Most international students are not eligible for Medicare and use OSHC to obtain an insurer benefit instead. Some students may also have access to Medicare under a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement, but this does not automatically replace the student-visa OSHC requirement.
For coverage, insurer details and possible exemptions, see the Australian Government Study Australia OSHC guide.
Standard private consultation fees apply to OSHC patients. Claim amounts can be less than the amount paid, leaving an out-of-pocket gap.
Choose a Standard Consultation (15 minutes), Long Consultation (30 minutes), or Video Consultation. Longer or complex concerns may require additional time or an in-person examination.
No. DC Medical Centre charges its standard private consultation fees. You pay the practice and then submit a claim to your OSHC insurer for any eligible benefit.
Yes. Our team can help you understand the claiming process and provide the receipt or supporting details you need. Your insurer decides the benefit and whether your claim is approved.
Reimbursement depends on your plan and the service billed. Basic OSHC generally provides a benefit towards eligible GP visits, but it may not cover our full private fee. Contact your insurer to confirm your benefit.
Most international students are not eligible for Medicare. Your OSHC membership details are generally used when you make a claim. Some students have additional Medicare eligibility through reciprocal arrangements.
Some eligible video consultations may be claimable, depending on the insurer, the service and any telehealth requirements. Confirm your cover with your OSHC provider before booking.
Bring your OSHC membership information or digital card, identification, relevant medical records, medication details and a payment method.
Basic OSHC commonly includes benefits towards GP consultations, eligible hospital services, ambulance and certain prescription medications. Your own policy determines exclusions, benefit limits and gap payments.
Some medically necessary pathology and imaging services may attract OSHC benefits. Check eligibility and any out-of-pocket costs directly with the test provider and your insurer.
Basic OSHC generally does not cover routine dental, optical or physiotherapy. Separate extras coverage may be available depending on your policy.
Contact the insurer and ask why. Our reception team can help identify the consultation receipt or service information needed, but cannot guarantee reimbursement or override insurer decisions.
Yes, subject to assessment. If your university requires its own template, download it from its website and bring a printed copy or email it to reception@dcmedical.com.au before your appointment.
Choose a Standard (15 minutes), Long (30 minutes) or Video Consultation. Standard private fees apply, and we can help with insurance claiming after payment if needed.
